Avoid the holiday rip-offs…

When it comes to taking your annual summer holiday it’s important that you make the most of every value pound you spend. As with every market there’s always someone out there trying to get their hands on your hard-earned cash so make sure you don’t get caught out and follow our top tips to avoid being fleeced when you get away this summer…

1) Credit cards – avoid using cards that charge for overseas transactions, there are plenty of cards that don’t charge extra for using them when you’re abroad.
2) Holiday money – Try to buy your holiday money before you get to the airport as exchange rates are less favourable and commission is likely to be added on top.
3) Avoid paying in sterling – some shops and restaurants will allow you to pay in sterling when your overseas, but avoid doing this as the exchange rate is likely to poor.
4) Shop sensibly – if you’re taking a self-catering villa holiday buy your food in bulk from the local supermarket to avoid the higher costs from smaller retailers.
5) Be careful with your phone – Check the costs for using your phone before you leave home, most networks charge higher fees for using your phone abroad. Consider buying an additional bundle for overseas use to reduce the costs.
