The Costa del Sol continues to be a popular choice for Brits looking to head abroad in search of some much needed sunshine. Recent figures released by online flight comparison website SkySkanner revealed that Malaga Airport was the second most searched destination during the past three months.

As the British economy takes a steady climb out of the recession that dogged last summer causing many Brits to rethink their annual holiday plans and stay in the UK, more of us are begining to travel abroad again with the promise of lower prices and guaranteed sun.

The pound is currently at its strongest position in two years against the Euro and with a recent survey revealing that Spain is the best value European holiday destination its easy to see why Spain and indeed the Costa del Sol are at the top of many peoples destination choices.

Costa del Sol topped the Gold Rush

I couldn’t help but enjoy reading this little article about the ‘gold rush’ of buying holiday homes in the sun experienced by many Brits for most of this decade. Despite the current climate it reminds us of the popularity of the Costa del Sol in both boom and bust times.

It also comes as some reassurance that the market will eventually pick up and hopefully sooner rather that later. There is no doubt that the Costa del Sol has been a victim of the economic downturn like all popular holiday resorts, however it has not seen the same decline in tourism levels experienced by some popular holiday destination. If tourism picks up it will certainly have a positive effect on the local property market.
